The reason you buy Mooney is to get from A to B quicker – why void the advantage by having to stop for fuel? Depending on your model, a long-range fuel tank upgrade will increase your range by up to 50%.

Many Mooney service providers offer a long-range fuel tank upgrade, but only Midwest M20 offers it using an optional polyurethane treatment.

Your Mooney came from the factory with standard polysulfide sealing, which typically lasts about five to eight years; it’s hard to work with, and if you don’t keep your tank topped off, it will dry out, crack and leak.

Our proprietary fuel tank STC using polyurethane includes a stripping of your Mooney’s polysulfide sealant, replaced by polyurethane that is much longer-lasting (up to 25 years) and more flexible, which means it will bend without cracking or risking dangerous leaks.

In addition to increasing the range, it allows your Mooney to run at higher power setting, thus achieving higher cruise speeds for long trips where it is most desirable, without lengthy fuel stops. On a 1200 NM trip, this speed difference can be from 20 KTS for the M20J to 50 KTS for the M20M. This difference translates to a savings of three hours on the average 2400 NM round trip (1200 NM each way). Safety is also improved by having a larger fuel reserve at your destination (especially under IMC). For those remote destinations where there is no fuel available (or is too expensive), it allows you to reach them with the return fuel onboard.
